Communication Studies scholars win research grants from Arthur W. Page Center at Penn State University

Two faculty members from the Department of Communication Studies, Dr Regina Chen and Dr Keonyoung Park, have respectively been awarded research grants from the Arthur W. Page Center at The Pennsylvania State University in the US for their research proposals. The 2023 grants are focused on supporting research in digital analytics and prosocial communication.

Dr Regina Chen, Associate Head of the Department, and her team, which includes Dr Flora Hung-Baesecke and Professor Maureen Taylor from the University of Technology Sydney, received a prosocial communication grant for their project titled “Creating shared purpose, dialogic communication, organization listening, and tensions: Exploring the role of communication to resolve ageing-care problems in Australia and New Zealand.”

Meanwhile, Dr Keon Young Park, Assistant Professor of the Department, is a co-recipient of a digital analytics grant with Professor Ho Young Yoon from the Ewha Womans University in Korea for their project titled “Toward trust: The importance of algorithm transparency signaling in AI-assisted communication.”

The grant recipients will present their findings at a research roundtable hosted by the Arthur W. Page Center during next year’s Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication Conference (AEJMC). Since its establishment in 2004, the Center has awarded more than $1 million in funding to support nearly 300 scholars and professionals who have made important contributions to the development of knowledge and best practices in corporate communication, public relations, and media ethics.
