Journalism Students Shine at Consumer Rights Reporting Awards
The practicum platforms of the Department of Journalism at the School of Communication, San Po Yan and Broadcast News Network, have garnered three awards in the Tertiary Student Journalism Award category at the 24th Consumer Rights Reporting Awards organised by the Consumer Council.
The Silver Award was presented to San Po Yan reporter Phoenie Zhang and sociology student Chung Hoi-tung for their report that exposed how scammers exploit consumers by selling counterfeit goods online at low prices and utilising cash-on-delivery tactics. The Bronze Award went to the team of San Po Yan reporters Cheung Hiu-lam, Wong Ka-wing, Liang Yurui and Au Yeung Jim for their investigative report, which revealed that restaurants in Lok Fu were allegedly violating regulations by improperly storing and handling food in outdoor loading areas. The Broadcast News Network team, comprising Lee Ho-yin, Wong Shun-him, Darerca Siu, and Felix Leung, received the Merit Award for their video report that examined the price fluctuations of supermarket goods before and after the government's distribution of consumption vouchers.
