HKBU receives HK$1 million donation from the late Mr Chan Chee Kheong

The University recently received a generous donation of around HK$1 million from The CCK Trust established by the late Mr Chan Chee Kheong to support the development of the Academy of Film.

Mr Chan was a renowned Malaysian-born Hong Kong film producer and talent manager. Between the 1980s and 1990s, he was best known for helping to establish the careers of a number of celebrities with his extensive network, including world-famous artistes Dr Jackie Chan, Ms Maggie Cheung, Mr Jacky Cheung and Ms Cherie Chung. He also served as the Honorary Secretary of the Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild. In 2011, Mr Chan received the Professional Achievement Award at the 30th Hong Kong Film Awards in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the Hong Kong film industry.

Professor Eva Man, Director of the Academy of Film, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Mr Chan and The CCK Trust for their ardent support of the Academy. She said, “During such a difficult time with the novel coronavirus outbreak, this timely gift is truly an enormous source of encouragement to the Academy and its students. We will continue to nurture more talented professionals, providing them with an excellent cinematic arts and creative media education which will enable them to contribute to the arts and cultural industries in Hong Kong and beyond.”
