School of Communication establishes new global partnerships with Canadian University Dubai and DeTao Masters Academy

School of Communication established new partnerships with Canadian University Dubai (CUD) and DeTao Masters Academy in China to foster exchange and collaboration in teaching and research, as well as to build stronger ties with overseas film, television and creative media industries.

Under the academic exchange agreement, the School of Communication and CUD will send undergraduate students to each other’s university for study exchange, lasting from one semester to up to one year. Moreover, registration for a credit-bearing CUD summer programme to be conducted in June is now open to HKBU students. The collaboration between the two institutions would initially focus on the field of Communication, but it is expected to expand to other areas from 2019 onwards.

Canadian University Dubai offers academic programmes based on the Canadian curriculum and education principles. They are accredited by the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. CUD has established international partnerships with higher education institutions in Canada, North America, Europe, Africa and Oceania. Students of CUD are able to study in both CUD and its partner universities in Canada.

As for the strategic partnership agreement signed with DeTao Masters Academy, both institutions will co-host a variety of events, including master classes and talks on film and television, innovative teacher trainings and overseas study tours, and to explore the possibility of establishing a master’s degree programme in Film and Television/Design at HKBU. As one of the supporting organisations of HKBU’s 1st Global University Students Film Festival, to be held between 7 and 9 November 2018, the Academy will help the School strengthen its connections with academia and practitioners of film and television, and creative media around the world.
