Film graduate wins top prizes at Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival

Ms Chu Hoi-ying, a 2014 graduate from the School of Communication’s Academy of Film, won the Fresh Wave Award and the Best Director Award at the 13th Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival with her work 3 Generations 3 Days.

The short film tells the story of Ching, who always finds it hard to communicate with her mother. Later on in the film, Ching’s grandma moves from the mainland to Hong Kong. Ching needs to take care of her and has the opportunity to better understand the past of her grandma as well as her mother. This drives Ching to re-examine her relationship with the family.

Ms Chu was inspired by the real-life relationship she has with her mother. Throughout the film, she wanted to show the intangible mutual influences in a family which gradually mould each other.
