HKBU scholars receive funding for news literacy education research

Scholars from HKBU and the University of Hong Kong (HKU) have received an HK$3.2 million grant from the Quality Education Fund for their new project, which is entitled “Promoting Smart and Positive News Engagement among Hong Kong Junior-Secondary School Students: News Literacy Education in the Digital Age”.

The Project – which involves Dr Kelly Ku, Director of HKBU’s Centre for Child Development, Dr Celine Song, an Associate Professor from the Department of Journalism, and Dr Masato Kajimoto from HKU – is an interdisciplinary effort which aims to provide young news consumers with the proper values, knowledge, and critical thinking skills necessary to make good news choices, engage in positive civil discourse, and see the wider world in a fair-minded manner.
