Communication graduates admitted to world’s top postgraduate schools
A number of fresh graduates of the School of Communication have been admitted to the graduate schools of leading universities around the world, including Harvard University, Columbia University, the University of Pennsylvania and Northwestern University in the United States.
Of these high-flying students, Charlotte Yang (International journalism, Year 4) has been admitted by Harvard University’s John Kennedy School of Government to study its Master of Public Policy programme. Though she devoted her utmost efforts to gain entry to Harvard University, she never expected that her dream would come true, and considers herself very fortunate to have this opportunity.
As someone willing to brave any challenge, Charlotte has joined many activities including the Putonghua debating team, a Metropolitan Attachment Programme, as an exchange student in London, working at China Central Television and at the Hong Kong branch of the New York Times as an intern reporter. These experiences have stood her in good stead, equipping her with a solid foundation of knowledge and widening her vision.
Lindsy Long (International journalism, Year 4) will study at the Columbia Journalism School of Columbia University. She has always been eager to explore the world and fully understands that a professional reporter needs to acquire many fields of knowledge such as politics, economics and languages. Therefore Lindsy not only took a minor in applied economics and learned Spanish from her first year, she also took internships at Reuters and China National Radio, and an exchange study in the Netherlands.
She thanked HKBU for providing such a variety of learning opportunities and is deeply grateful to the knowledgeable and responsible teachers of the Department of Journalism who nurtured her whole-person development and prepare her to become a professional journalist.
