The Workshop is being held at HKBU from 24 to 28 October 2016.

The seven winners of the prestigious award of the US media industry are: Professor William Snyder, Chair of the Photojournalism Programme, Rochester Institute of Technology, USA and the leader of the 2006 Breaking News Photography winning team; Mr Ben Solomon, member of the 2015 International Reporting winning team; Ms Esther Htusan, member of the 2016 Public Service winning team; Mr George Rodrigue, member of the 1994 International Reporting winning team; Ms Kristen Graham, member of the 2012 Public Service winning team; Ms Robin McDowell, member of the 2016 Public Service winning team; and Ms Susan Snyder, member of the 2012 Public Service winning team.

Officiating at the Opening Ceremony today (25 October) were Mr Leung Ka-wing, Director of Broadcasting, and Professor Franklin Luk, Vice-President (Academic) of HKBU. At the ceremony, Mr Leung said that journalism education is best enhanced through the sharing of insights from the best, and HKBU, as the forerunner in nurturing future generations of journalists, has been organising this Workshop successfully for such a purpose for the past years.

In his opening speech, Professor Franklin Luk encouraged the students, as global citizens and future journalists, to take advantage of the Workshop to seek out news, information and ideas that can empower themselves and others to build a meaningful life.

Following the Ceremony, the seven winners participated in a Forum on “Bearing Witness: The Reporting of Human Triumphs and Failings”, sharing their views on how journalists contribute to the building of a global community that empowers people to change lives and address injustice.

During their visit at HKBU, the seven eminent journalists are taking part in a series of open lectures and classes to share their insights about the role and the challenges of journalists in the digital age. Please visit http://ppww.hkbu.edu.hk for more information.

Every two years, six to eight Pulitzer Prize winners are invited to the HKBU campus for a week of academic exchange to enhance the quality of journalistic education and global vision among professional journalists.
