Dr. Hou Hsiao-Hsien won the Best Director Award at the 68th Festival de Cannes

Dr. Hou Hsiao-Hsien, the renowned Taiwanese director, has won the Best Director Award at the 68th Festival de Cannes for his first historical martial arts piece Nie Yinniang (The Assassin). He has been a frequent participant at Cannes with seven films in Competition, and was awarded the Jury Prize at the 13th Festival de Cannes for The Puppetmaster.

Dr. Hou is Doctor of Letters, honoris causa; and an Honorary Consultant of Academy of Film, School of Communication, Hong Kong Baptist University. The Festival, held from 13 to 25 May, marks the second time that the honor has gone to a Taiwanese director. Since the Festival's founding, Dr Hou is the third Chinese director to receive this honour.
