Collaboration with Leipzig and Ohio Universities
In keeping with our aim of preparing students for the global age, a delegation from the School of Communication met with representatives from Leipzig University, Germany and Ohio University, USA. The goal of these meetings is to internationalise our programmes by exploring the possibility of collaboration among the three institutions.
Professor Huang Yu, Dean of the School of Communication; Professor Kineta Hung, Head of the Department of Communication Studies and Ms. Bonnie Chiu, Associate Head of the Department of Journalism met with their counterparts from the other two delegations, including Professor Ansgar Zerfass, Vice Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Leipzig University; Honorary Professor Werner Suess, Department of Communication Management and Public Relations, Institute of Communication and Media Studies, Leipzig University; Professor Scott Titsworth, Dean of Scripps College of Communication, Ohio University; Professor Robert Stewart, Director of E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, Ohio University. The five-day visit and meetings ran from December 1st to 5th, 2014. Topics under discussion included future 3-way collaboration on a variety of academically and socially enriching activities, such as symposiums, research projects and study tours. In the coming years, the three institutions also plan to join hands by vigorously promoting student/faculty exchanges in both the short and long-term.
It is the hope that such interactions will help students from all three countries to broaden their horizons, build their international knowledge and cultural competency, and strengthen their communication skills. After completing their studies at the prospective universities, students will emerge further along the road to becoming informed global citizens ready to meet the challenges of the global era.
