Academy of Film Seeds Project presents awards for Digital Short Video Competition and holds creative seminar

The “Youth Inno-Action! HKBU Academy of Film Seeds Project” today (9 July) presented 12 awards to winners of the Digital Short Video Competition 2013. SALEM-Immannel Lutheran College won the Best Director and Best Drama awards for its video “The 4th Roll - 10 min. version”. Another video by the College, “I Believe, therefore 3 – DREAMARY”, and HKBU Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School’s video “Netizens” scooped the Outstanding Documentary awards. The list of winners is enclosed.

The award presentation ceremony was officiated by Miss Cheng Wai-fung, Assistant Head of Create Hong Kong (CreateHK), Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government; Mr. Hui Cheuk-chun, Executive Director, Youth.gov.hk, Efficiency Unit, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government; Mr. Li Kuo-hsing, Chairman, Mei Ah Entertainment Group Co. Ltd.; and Professor Cheuk Pak-tong, Director of the Academy of Film, School of Communication, HKBU.

Speaking at the award presentation ceremony, Professor Cheuk said that the Seeds Project in its second year attracted more than 1,100 students from over 100 secondary schools to participate in its various activities. The Digital Short Video Competition, which is one of the highlights of the Seeds Project, received a total of 100 submissions, the standard of which was encouraging, according to Professor Cheuk. He specially thanked the people and organisations involved in the Seeds Project, including instructors, members of the judging panel, staff and students of the Academy of Film of the School of Communication of HKBU , participating secondary school teachers and students, as well as the sponsoring and supporting organisations, for contributing to the success of this 10-month project. He said: “We will continue our efforts to cultivate more talent for the film and television sector of Hong Kong’s creative industry.”

The Digital Short Video Competition’s 100 entries competing for eight drama awards and four documentary awards are from 52 secondary schools and include 72 dramas and 28 documentaries competing for eight drama awards and four documentary awards. Members of the adjudication panel include Dr. Sobel Chan, Senior Lecturer of the Academy of Film of the School of Communication, HKBU; Mr. Lau Shing-hon, director; Mr. Poon Hang-sang, winner of Best Cinematography award at the Hong Kong Film Awards and Lecturer of the Academy of Film of the School of Communication, HKBU; and Mr. Terry Tong, director.

A creative seminar on “Youth Creativity in the New Media Generation” was held after the award ceremony. Ms. Heiward Mak, winner of the Best Screenplay award at the Hong Kong Film Awards, and Mr. Lo Chun-yip (Siu Yea), independent film director and actor, shared with the students about creativity and their experiences in creative work.

“Youth Inno-Action! HKBU Academy of Film Seeds Project” is a creative training project for secondary school students. It is initiated and developed by the Academy of Film of the School of Communication of HKBU and Youth.gov.hk. The project is sponsored by CreateHK. The Digital Short Video Competition aimed to nurture young students’ creativity and potential through creative film making.
