HKBU appoints Professor Huang Yu as Dean of Communication

Professor Huang is currently Acting Dean of Communication, Professor at the Department of Journalism and Executive Associate Dean of the Graduate School of HKBU. He obtained a PhD in Media and Communication from the University of Westminster in the UK and joined HKBU in 1994 as Lecturer in the Department of Journalism. He then advanced through the years to Professorship. Professor Huang was Head of the Department of Journalism from 2006 to 2011. He served as Associate Dean of Communication for almost two years, before taking up the Acting Deanship in September 2012.

Professor Huang’s enthusiasm and commitment to serving the Department of Journalism, the School of Communication and the University over the years earned him the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Service in 2011.

Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, said: “The University is pleased to appoint Professor Huang as Dean of Communication. Professor Huang is an expert in journalistic education with a good research record. He is a dedicated teacher and always places students at the centre of his concerns. He also shares his expertise with the professional community and the wider public through media interviews and talks. Professor Huang has a profound knowledge of and dedication to the School of Communication. I believe that under his able leadership, the School will further strengthen the outstanding quality of its Communication education and scale new heights, benefiting the society as a whole.”
