Academy of Film’s faculty produces videos for charity causes

Mr. Kit Hung, Lecturer at the Academy of Film, recently used his expertise in film production to contribute to the community. Invited by IFVA green lab of Hong Kong Arts Centre and Food Link Foundation, he produced for them a promo-video and a short film, respectively.

In 2012, IFVA collaborated with the Employees Retraining Board (ERB), to use short films as a communication tool for people in various levels of society. To inform and inspire Hong Kong people, the ERB commissioned four films to depict actual students trained under their programmes. Kit Hung, one of the four prominent indie directors invited to participate, combined masterful imagery with heartfelt concern for his subjects to create life-affirming films.

In his film “Tomorrow is Another Day”, new immigrant, Nguyen Thi Thom, did not speak a word of Cantonese when she came to Hong Kong, but there is nothing she cannot handle. Through positivity, optimism and perseverance, she grits her teeth and changes her life for the better. By the end of the film, we see her fully integrated into Hong Kong society. Kit Hung was also invited by local charity Food Link Foundation to produce a promo-video to raise people’s awareness and urge them “don’t waste food". The video was widely screened in Hong Kong on the four free TV channels and ten other TV stations, and also in cinemas. Its for-charity premiere took place in Hong Kong on 20 December 2012, the same night and in the time slot just before the premiere of Les Miserables.
