First HDTV and Film Studio in local tertiary institutions in full operation at HKBU
The Academy of Film under the School of Communication of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) received a generous donation of HK$12.46 million from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust in 2010 to procure high-definition (HD) equipment and to set up the Jockey Club Television and Film Studio. The Studio was fully operational early this year, making HKBU the first local tertiary institution to have a studio with full-scale HD television and film production facilities.
With an area of more than 200 sq.m., the Jockey Club Television and Film Studio is equipped with brand new advanced HD equipment that is the same as that currently adopted in today's film industry. The equipment includes four sets of a Full HD Multi Format Digital Camera, Jimmy Jib Triangle, HD Video Switcher and Matrix Router, HD Video Server as well as a Digital Audio System. These superb facilities enable students to acquire the basic techniques of the latest technology in television and film and qualify them to enter the professional sector immediately upon graduation.
The Studio will open to the media on Wednesday. Two veteran film professionals and Lecturers of the Academy of Film, Mr. Liu Kai-chi and Mr. Wong Kin-fun, will be on hand to teach students majoring in the Higher Diploma Professional Programme in Film. Professor Cheuk Pak-tong, Director of the Academy of Film, will introduce the advanced teaching and learning facilities in film editing, sound recording, mixing and dubbing as well as animation production. He will also give a briefing on the courses in film production. In addition, Higher Diploma students will also share the views on their future career prospects. Details of the session are as follows:
