The revolutionary development in communication technology in the 21st century has changed the world’s media landscape and challenges many classical theoretical concepts. Given the new development in the media environment and the new task of media education, health communication and media education scholars are searching for new research directions for media literacy and health education.

 

Objectives and Themes

The objectives of the conference are

  • To bring together international scholars and educators to share ideas about theories and practices to promote healthy development in adolescence in the new epoch; and
  • To bring different academic disciplines together to share theoretical insights and findings about media consumption, social values cultivation, education, marketing, anthropology, sociology, psychology, medical science, leisure and sports science, semiotics and cultural studies.

Specifically, topics for this conference shall include (but are not restricted to):

  • Media and Self Image
    (ideal body image, beauty myth, self identity formation)
  • Media and Health
    (eating disorder, obesity, food promotion, health promotion)
  • Youth Consumption Culture
    (consumer culture, media consumption)
  • Media Literacy and Cultivation of Social Values
    (media literacy and social learning, media and personal growth)
  • Media Literacy and Health Development
    (reflective reception of health messages, media production on health issues, creativity in health messages)
