Renowned artistes and film directors to crown winners of the
HKBU’s 7th Film and Television Festival on Wednesday

 

The 7th Global Chinese Universities Student Film and Television Festival organised by the School of Communication of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) will culminate in an Awards Presentation Ceremony this Wednesday. Recognised by film students in the Greater China region as their version of the “Hollywood Oscars”, the Festival this year attracted more than 110 entries from students in over 50 tertiary institutions in the Mainland, Taiwan, Singapore, Macau and Hong Kong. Both the quality and quantity of the works submitted this year have been the best ever.

The Awards Presentation Ceremony has been co-organised by the University’s School of Communication and Radio Television Hong Kong. Local renowned artistes and film directors have been invited to present the awards. Details are as follows:

Date: 22 April 2009 (Wednesday) Time: (Cocktail) 6pm; (Ceremony) 7pm
Venue: Academic Community Hall, HKBU Ho Sin Hang Campus (old campus), Waterloo Road, Kowloon Tong

Officiating guests:

*Mr. Duncan Pescod, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology)
* Mr. Franklin Wong Wah-kay, Director of Broadcasting
* Dr. John Woo, renowned film director
* Mr. Ng See-yuen, Honorable President of Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild
* Professor Ng Ching-fai, President and Vice-Chancellor, HKBU
* Professor Zhao Xinshu, Dean of Communication, HKBU
* Dr. Cheuk Pak-tong, Professor of School of Communication, HKBU

An illustrious panel of more than 20 local and overseas academics and film professionals are judging the film entries this year. The judges include Mr. Choi Kam-chuen (蔡甘銓), Mr. Cheung Tung-joe (張同祖), Ms. Mabel Cheung (張婉婷), Mr. Lawrence Lau Kwok-cheong (劉國昌), Mr. Lee Lik-chi (李力持), and Mr. Alex Law Kai-yui (羅啟銳). Forty-three entries managed to make the shortlist and will go on to compete for the 13 awards – the Best Short Dramatic Film Award, Best Director Award for Short Dramatic Film, Best Creativity Award for Short Dramatic Film, Best Script Award for Short Dramatic Film, Best Documentary Award, Best Animation Award, Best Experimental Film Award, Jury’s Award, Outstanding Documentary Awards (for two entries), Outstanding Animation Award, Outstanding Experimental Film Award, and the newly established Golden Award.
