HKBU student wins Best Short Dramatic Film Award at 13th Global Chinese Universities Student Film and Television Festival
At the 13th Global Chinese Universities Student Film and Television Festival award ceremony organised by the Academy of Film of the School of Communication which was held yesterday (21 April), 13 awards were presented. Wu Boping, student of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), grabbed the Best Short Dramatic Film Award for My Blossoming Summer.
This year’s Golden Award went to Cao Runze, Jin Zewei and Yang Han, students of Communication University of China, for Forefinger Town. Darrell Liu from The Central Academy of Drama won the Best Director Award for Short Dramatic Film for Love in a Trashcan while Siu Man-hok, Cheng Tsun-yin and Chan Ka-chun from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University won the Best Creativity Award for Short Dramatic Film for Au revoir. Officiating at the award presentation ceremony were Ms Chloe Suen, Chairman, Simon Suen Foundation; Mr Ng See-yuen, Honorary President, Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild; Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice Chancellor, HKBU; Professor Huang Yu, Dean, School of Communication, HKBU; Professor Emilie Yeh, Director, Academy of Film, School of Communication, HKBU; and Professor Cheuk Pak-tong, Executive Chair, the 13th Global Chinese Universities Student Film and Television Festival.
This year, 87 entries were received from 61 institutions in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Macau, Taiwan and from overseas to compete for 13 awards. The panel of judges included Mr Alex Law, Director/Producer (Chair); Mr Cheung Tung-joe, Director; Mr Cheung Chi-sing, Scriptwriter/Director; Mr Lau Shing-hon, Director; Mr Terry Tong, Director/Producer; and Mr Freddie Wong, Film Critic/Director.
The award presentation ceremony will be broadcast on RTHK, Azio International Channel (i-Cable 132), One TV (nowTV CH552), Youtube, Astro (CA 304) and Viddsee.com.
The award presentation ceremony was attended by 380 participants, including 100 students and scholars from Australia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, India, Korea, Poland, Russia, UK and the US. The Festival, held at HKBU from 20 to 22 April, has recorded attendance of 1,100 across six film screenings and the ceremony.
