Renowned communication scholar shares experience on research and research assessment
Professor Peter Golding, Emeritus Professor at Northumbria University of the UK, an internationally renowned scholar in the field of political economy of the media, spoke at HKBU’s 60th Anniversary Shun Hing Distinguished Lecture Series on 22 and 26 February 2016, at the invitation of the School of Communication.
Professor Golding has played a leading role in developing and upholding the research profile and standards of the field of media, culture and communication in the UK and internationally over the last three decades. He also has extensive experience in research assessment, having been a member of three UK Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) panels and the recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) panel. He also chaired the last two REF panels.
During his visit to HKBU, he gave two lectures, namely “Why Studying the Media Needs a Sociological Perspective” and “Media Research: Do New Questions Need New Research Method?”, and a presentation entitled “What is Research Impact?”, providing participants with a valuable and stimulating learning experience.
The 60th Anniversary Distinguished Lecture Series was sponsored by Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund.
