The "Twitter, Weibo, WeChat and the 'We' movement: Microblogging and Journalism in China and Australia" symposium, jointly organised by the Centre for Media and Communication Research of the School of Communication, the School of Film, Media and Journalism of Monash University, Australia, and the Australia-China Council, was held on 11 September 2015.

At the symposium conducted by Dr Regina Chen, Assistant Professor of the Department of Communication Studies of the School of Communication and Dr David Holmes, Senior Lecturer of the School of Film, Media and Journalism at Monash University, there were about 25 speakers from different backgrounds, including journalists, news editors and producers, marketing practitioners and academics from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Australia and Britain. They shared their views and experiences on how microblogging, as a social media communication platform, affects the journalistic business model, multi-media practices and newsroom culture.
