School of Communication establishes Timothy Yu Communication Education Fund

The School of Communication has received a generous donation of HK$1 million from Mrs Helen Yu, wife of the late Professor Timothy Yu, founder of the Department of Communication, to establish the Timothy Yu Communication Education Fund which aims to support the teaching and research development of the School.

A ceremony in celebration of the establishment of the Fund was held on 4 July. Officiating guests included Mr Joseph Yu, eldest son of Professor Timothy Yu and also an alumnus of the School of Communication; Mr Cheng Yan-kee, Chairman of the Council and the Court; Professor Rick Wong, Acting President and Vice-Chancellor, and Professor Huang Yu, Associate Vice-President and Dean of Communication. Some 80 alumni from the graduating classes of the 1970’s and friends of Professor Yu also attended the ceremony.

In his speech, Mr Cheng Yan-kee thanked Mrs Yu for her generous donation, adding that it is a great encouragement and support to the School of Communication. “The donation would help develop the communication education founded by Professor Yu, strengthen its leading position and nurture outstanding talents in communication.”

A Photo Exhibition in Memoriam Professor Timothy Yu was also launched to showcase the efforts of Professor Yu in promoting communication education in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland since the late 1960’s. The exhibition is open to the public till 31 July at Dr and Mrs Sze Chi Ching Exhibition Gallery, Lam Woo International Conference Centre on Shaw Campus.
