HKBU students win two awards at 11th Global Chinese Universities Student Film and Television Festival

The 11th Global Chinese Universities Student Film and Television Festival organised by the Academy of Film of the School of Communication recently presented 13 awards. Lanzhow University student Shi Xinjie won the Golden Award and the Best Short Dramatic Film Award for her work Dew Couples. HKBU students also scooped two awards. Wong Chin-yan clinched the Best Director Award for Short Dramatic Film for Journey while Chu Hoi-ying snatched the Outstanding Documentary Award for Disappearing in Central. This year, 69 institutions in Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Macau nominated a total of 121 entries to compete for the 13 awards. Mr Alex Law, Director/Producer (Chair); Mr Cheung Tung-joe, Director; Mr Cheung Chi-sing, Scriptwriter/Director; Mr Lau Shing-hon, Director; Mr Terry Tong, Director/Producer; and Mr Freddie Wong, Film Critic/Director, formed the panel of judges.

The Award Presentation Ceremony was held at Asia Television Limited last Friday. The officiating guests were Mr Ng See-yuen, Honorary President, Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild; Miss Chloe Suen, Chairperson, Simon Suen Foundation; Mr Crucindo Hung, Chairman, Hong Kong Motion Picture Industry Association; Mr Raymond Wong, Chairman, Pegasus Entertainment Holdings Limitied; Mr Cheng Yan-kee, Chairman, Council and Court, HKBU; Mr Ip Ka-po, Executive Director, Asia Television Limited; and Professor Cheuk Pak-tong, Director, Academy of Film, School of Communication, HKBU.

The Festival held from 22 to 24 April was attended by around 350 students, including around 150 students from UK, USA, Russia, Australia, Poland, Czech Republic, India, Indonesia, China, Taiwan, Singapore and Korea.

The award presentation ceremony will be broadcast on ATV’s Home Channel on 10 May from 8 pm to 9 pm and again on 18 May from 11:50 pm to 12:50 am, and on Asia Channel on 11 May from 8 pm to 9 pm and again on 12 May from 2:20 am to 3:20 am.
