School of Communication celebrates 45th anniversary of founding and presents Chang Kuo-sin Award for Aspiring Young Communicators

To celebrate the 45th anniversary of its founding, the School of Communication held a Homecoming Day last Saturday (26 October) and welcomed back more than 550 Communication alumni from different decades. The celebratory events included the 45th Anniversary lunch gathering, “The Best of Times: Picturing Your Campus Memories” Photos Exhibition and “The Anchor of Today is YOU” Tour of the School of Communication. The School facilities were also open to the general public for visits.

Also held was the award presentation ceremony of the 4th Chang Kuo-sin Award for Aspiring Young Communicators, during which nine distinguished young communicators in the fields of communication and journalism whose work demonstrates the highest professional standards, exemplifies the philosophy “Truth is Virtue”, and displays a high degree of originality were recognised. At the celebratory lunch, Professor Huang Yu, Dean of the School of Communication, thanked all the former deans and department heads who had contributed to the strong establishment of the School. He said the School would strive for excellence in teaching and research and continue to scale new heights.

Officiating guests at the 4th Chang Kuo-sin Award for Aspiring Young Communicators award presentation ceremony included Mr. Chang Chi-wu and Mr. Benjamin Chang, sons of Mr. Chang kuo-sin, Mrs. Pamela Chan, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court, Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, and Professor Huang Yu, Dean of School of Communication.

In her speech, Mrs. Chan said the competition was a great success. She praised the high standard of the entries, saying that the winners had demonstrated the spirit of “Truth is Virtue” through their works in pursuit of truth and virtue.

The Chang Kuo-sin Award for Aspiring Young Communicators was set up in 2007 in memory of distinguished journalist, film-maker, commentator and educator Chang Kuo-sin who served as Head of the then Department of Communication from 1978 to 1986. The aim of the awards is to recognise works by young people in the field of journalism and communication that reach the highest professional standards, exemplify the philosophy “Truth is Virtue” and display a high degree of originality. The adjudicating panel of this year’s award comprised renowned professionals in the field of journalism and communication and veteran educators.
