Journalism student and alumnus triumph at Campus News Award competition
Brian Yap (International Journalism, Year 3) and Alan Wong (Journalism graduate) of the School of Communication recently won a total of five awards in the English division of the 2nd Campus Newspaper Award competition organised by China Daily Hong Kong.
Brian’s article “N-nothings: Only Urban Public Housing Can Pull Us Out of Rental Abyss” published in The Young Reporter, a magazine run by HKBU Journalism students, won him a merit prize in the Best in News Reporting category and made him the winner of the Best in News Writing category.
Alan snatched a merit prize in the Best in News Page Design category for “LegCo Losers Special” and a merit prize in the Best in Overall Design category for The Young Reporter (March issue). He was the winner of the Best in Overall Design category for The Young Reporter (December issue).
This year, the competition attracted 267 entries from journalism students from 12 universities in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and China competing for awards in 16 categories. The 21-member judging panel comprised veteran media professionals and renowned academics from the four places across the Strait.
