HKBU graduate wins two awards at 10th Global Chinese Universities Student Film and Television Festival

The Academy of Film of the School of Communication of held a ceremony at ATV last Saturday to present the 14 awards of the 10th Global Chinese Universities Student Film and Television Festival. Li Yushan, 2012 graduate of HKBU’s Master of Fine Arts in Film, TV and Digital Media programme, scooped the Best Short Dramatic Film Award and the Best Director Award for Short Dramatic Film for her thesis “Dong”. This year’s Golden Award went to Song Liying of the Beijing Film Academy for her work “Endless Summer”. “The Oath of Regret and Love” by Pu Xia of the Central Academy of Drama clinched the 10th Anniversary Special Award. Guests officiating at the ceremony were The Hon. Ma Fung-kwok, Legislative Councillor; Dr. Simon Suen, Chairman of the Simon Suen Foundation and Honorary Doctor of HKBU; Mr. Ng See-yuen, Honorary President of the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild; Mr. Crucindo Hung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Motion Picture Industry Association; Mr. James Shing, Chief Executive Officer of Asia Television Limited; Mr. Cheng Yan-kee, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU; and Professor Cheuk Pak-tong, Director of the Academy of Film of the School of Communication of HKBU.

This year, the competition attracted 60 institutions in Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore which selected and submitted a total of 116 entries to compete for 14 awards. Mr. Alex Law Kai-yui, Director/Producer (Chair); Mr. Cheung Chi-sing, Scriptwriter/Director; Mr. Cheung Tung-joe, Director; Mr. Lau Shing-hon, Director; Mr. Terry Tong, Director/Producer; and Mr. Poon Hang-sang, Cinematographer/Director, formed the panel of judges.

The award presentation ceremony will be broadcast on ATV’s Home Channel on 12 May from 10 pm to 11 pm and again on 17 May from 1 pm to 2 pm, and on Asia Channel on 18 May from 10:15 pm to 11:15 pm and again on 19 May from 1:50 am to 2:50 am.

Held from 25 to 27 April at HKBU, The 10th Global Chinese Universities Student Film and Television Festival also featured eight student screening and sharing sessions and a seminar by Mr. Ng See-yuen on “The promotion and distribution of Mainland-Hong Kong film co-productions”.
