HKBU scholar commended for creative interactive media work

Dr. Kelvin Lee, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Communication Studies of the School of Communication, clinched a special mention award for his work Differential Reality at the Interactive Media category of the 18th IFVA Awards competition.

Dr. Lee’s work communicates the idea that the present moment is an integration of the past and deserves our close attention and should be cherished. The work is a satire on contemporary social behaviour in which a massive number of snapshots are produced every minute and on the proliferation of digital cameras that has turned the process of taking photographs into an unmindful act.

He thanks his colleagues for their support during the production of the work and the department head Professor Kara Chan for offering both logistical and financial support to encourage colleagues to submit their creative work to open competitions.

Incubator for Film & Visual Media in Asia (IFVA) is organised by the Hong Kong Arts Centre. The competition is divided into five categories: Open, Youth, Animation, Interactive Media and Asian New Force. Three awards – gold, silver and special mention – were presented in each category. This year, more than 40 entries were received in the Interactive Media category.
