Integrated Communication Management students win Tram Shelter Advertising Creative Contest

Two teams of Year 2 BSSc in Integrated Communication Management (ICM) students won the silver and bronze awards in the Public Category ofthe Tram Shelter Advertising Creative Contest 2012, recently held with the theme "Flying High for 15 years".

Members of silver award-winning team were Chan Wai-mei, Law Si-yu, Lam Chun-ting, Yuen Ka-lo and Tam Hoi-ying. In their submission entitled "My Remarkable Achievement", they used the concept of a jigsaw puzzle to tell the story of Hong Kong over the past 15 years, employing the "front and back" feature to express their idea.

The bronze winners Chui Chun-kit, Lau Chi-yan, Chau Ka-ying and Fung Sui-wa used a film negative as the framework of their "Time Gallery". They divided the film strip into 10 themed sections, each depicting highlights of the year, creating a time tunnel that takes the audience back to the old Hong Kong.

"This contest helped me to gain insights into the advertising industry. One of the ICM major core courses, Creative Advertising Copywriting, proved to be useful in equipping myself for this competition. More importantly, it helped me understand that winning is not the ultimate goal in a competition; the process itself is very valuable," said Chan Wai-mei, group leader of the silver award-winning team.

The competition, jointly organised by Hong Kong Tramways Limited and POAD Group Limited, is in its third year and aims to create an opportunity for the general public and professionals to creatively express their feelings towards Hong Kong.

Under this year's theme, participants were encouraged to step back in time to recall the wonderful moments in Hong Kong's history over the past 15years. The contest comprised three categories: Creative Professional, Brand, and Public. All works were judged by a panel of 11 leading professionals from various industries.

HKBU students are happy to win silver and bronze awards in the public category of a tram shelter advertising creative contest
