Alumni - FAN Ching Man, 1998

Vicky TSE

Fan Ching Man, 1998ACS graduation (the subject name is changed into ORGC now), she is a tutor of the School Of Continuous Education in the Hong Kong Baptist University.

Her first and present job
Her first job after master graduation was being an account executive in an advertisement Company.? ‘Although it is sure for me to engage in the education field as her life career, I would like to gain more social experience before being a teacher so as to prepare for my educational life.’ she said. Being a tutor is her second job. ‘I joined the family of Hong Kong Baptist University in 2001through formal application. She also mentioned that she might not teach in HK Baptist University for my whole life and might further study overseas.

Her unforgettable experience of being tutor
‘Teaching is not an easy job as you think.’ She said. At the very beginning, she had no idea on how to deal with the immediate chilly response from her students. She had a harsh period but she never gave up and upheld her motto ‘Before you blame, blame yourself!’
Year 2004 was the most unforgettable year in her teaching life. In order to prepare for the programme, students were required to visit different cultural groups and works over night.? ‘Even though the day before the exhibition is Mother’s Day, students finally forgot to celebrate with their mother and still work for the exhibition,’ she remembered. She really appreciated that her students paid so much effort on it no matter how the result was.?

Her relaxing personal life
‘I cook mostly after work.? When I have holiday, I like going to somewhere where I never went before especially those suburban areas.’? She believed that we could learn new things at the same time when we relax.
‘Play hard and work hard’ is the key to maintain the balance.? This is what she learnt from her boss when she was working in advertising company four years ago. ‘Though “playing” like visiting exhibition, watching a movie, we can get inspiration for our career.’ She said.

Her advice for all students and ORGC students
She encouraged us to learn how to think and how to solve problems in university first before we go further. It is because we can’t learn something like that when we go to work in the future anymore. ‘Professors are going to inspire us to learn. If we regard ourselves as clients and want to get products like notes, tips, we only learn superficially.’ She said. She also strongly recommends us to ‘try’ everything with passion.? Only though trying can find our ultimate ‘dreams’ successfully.
‘I definitely believe that ORGC students have their own advantages that other students don’t possess.? For example, we learn how to negotiate, communicate more efficiently within a company and that is what we are focusing on in these three years.’ Therefore, she hopes ORGC students can discover their own advantages in some day.
