Highlights of the Program
Research postgraduate students play an active role in the teaching and learning process of the program. In addition to classroom learning, they seek intellectual stimulation and share research experiences through active participation in research seminars or lectures conducted from time to time by visiting scholars or professionals.

The School and counterparts in 4 universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University (Mainland), National Chengchi University (Taiwan), Chinese University of Hong Kong regularly take turn to host the Postgraduate Students' Conference on Communication. Besides presenting papers, Research Postgraduate students are involved in the whole process of planning and organization. Students conceptualize, operationalise and present their research as well as hear criticisms from fellow students and scholars in the field.

Together with faculty supervision and coursework learning, conference participation has become an integral part of postgraduate education in the School. The number of accepted refereed papers and the comments received after their presentation constitute an important assessor of the program. Student papers have won recognition at conventions of major academic associations. Some examples include two top student papers at 2009 ICA Annuals conference, Chicago; Outstanding Student Paper at the 2004 Joint Conference on Chinese Communication Research, Shanghai; Elizabeth Nelson Prize for best paper at the 2003 conference of World Association of Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) held in Prague, Czech Republic for a paper co-authored with faculty.
